Both were set in much-heralded gardens, though after the lush flowers of Jamaica only the purple-blooming jacaranda trees impressed us. Tariq, on the clay courts, was a talented tennis pro while the huge swimming pool obviously delighted guests. Sign up for The Gleaner’s morning and evening newsletters. The staff, however, were exceptionally attentive and the restaurants, both French and Moroccan, superb. Perhaps the makeover by Jacques Garcia contributed to our disappointment. Central areas with striking two-colour tile designs are more appealing but too few intimate corners exist. Brown, beige, light blue, red and green tiles all together beneath pristine white sculpted designs are a jarringly unattractive mixture, something of which I was reminded every time I walked into our room. But oh how disappointing the colour scheme. The craftsmanship required for tile work and intricate plaster designs in each of the more than 200 rooms, as well as the painted doorways and elaborate metal lighting fixtures kept many artisans employed. Just when we thought we could finally afford a few nights in this extraordinary locale, the hotel closed for renovations, which took three years. Since hearing that Sir Winston Churchill would retreat from the stress of World War II to paint the gardens of La Mamounia, a palace in Marrakech transformed into a renowned hotel, so alluring was his description that I've wanted to stay at La Mamounia myself. For years I've yearned to visit the 11th-century city of Marrakech, once capital of an empire reaching from West Africa to Spain, whose fortunes varied with the ancient caravan routes and power struggles, alternating as a capital with ancient Fez.

One way to boost those efforts is for federal leaders to develop incentives to motivate customers to make the switch from a diesel to electric garbage truck, said Scott Barraclough, Mack’s senior product manager for electromobility. That’s something that should catch the attention of most Lehigh Valley residents, especially amid the explosion in local warehouse development and the truck traffic that comes with it, said Andrea Wittchen, president of the Lehigh Valley Sustainability Network. As it is now, greenhouse gas emissions from transportation account for about 29% of the U.S. The event, sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Sustainability Network, called on Congress to pass a budget with big investments in clean transportation infrastructure. Many people would like to see that timeline accelerated, including several climate advocates who joined Brunius at the Mack plant Thursday. “The transition period - how long that will be - that is sort of written in the stars.” “This truck is the future for the plant, but the question is then the timeline of when we are moving from diesel trucks into electric,” said Brunius, vice president and general manager of Mack’s Lehigh Valley Operations. And just a few feet behind the truck was Mack Trucks’ Lower Macungie Township assembly plant, which will soon start serial production of the electric truck. He meant that literally: A few feet away sat a blue Mack LR Electric, a fully electric garbage truck that produces no emissions and operates quietly. Gunnar Brunius stepped to the podium late Thursday morning and said “the future” was sitting just behind him. 3/1/2024 0 Comments Julius coffeeWith your consent, you also consent to the processing of your data in the USA. This is especially noticeable for those with larger libraries, but should still be helpful for libraries which are more down-to-earth as well. The Emby and Jellyfin integrations in 7.3 get a huge speed boost! This includes faster scanning and syncing, as well as more reliable updates for things like Playlists, watched statuses, and ratings. Our goal is that when you push PLAY in Infuse you get a beautiful picture on whatever device you happen to be using. This includes adding Dolby Vision (Profile 5) support on Mac, support for Dolby Vision when using Picture-in-Picture (PiP), plus improved handling for a few files that weren't working quite right before. Learn more about spatial audioĭolby Vision and HDR come in many flavors, and in this update we've worked hard to support more variants on more devices. The sound field stays mapped to the device, and the voice stays with the actor or action on screen. Like iOS and Apple TV, spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings theater-like sound that surrounds you from the movie or video you're watching, so that it seems as if the sound is coming from all around you. Now Mac users can join in and enjoy the best possible sound when listening through other devices like AirPods, HomePods, or Apple TV. Infuse for Mac gets a huge injection of functionality with the addition of Spatial audio and AirPlay 2 support. As 2021 winds down, we are happy to release Infuse 7.3 with many great additions. 3/1/2024 0 Comments Old silo usesMany homes have concrete stave sidewalks leading to their door, barn, garage, or patio. When a cement stave silo is torn down, the staves can be used for many landscaping purposes, the most common of which is sidewalks. The price for concrete stave silo demolition varies between $1,000 and $1,500 depending on the demolition company, the silo, and what is done with materials. “We just knock it down and it’s up to the owner to clean it up,” Hanson noted. Hanson Silo Company does not remove the materials after the silo has been knocked down. “When we finish, it looks like there was never anything there,” Rickert commented. He then fills the area where the silo once stood with dirt. Rickert removes the staves from the work site and brings the material to Knife River Corporation in Glencoe or Hutchinson, where the concrete is broken down and recycled. How the material is dealt with after demolition varies, as well. “Sometimes, we just use a sledge hammer,” he added. “It’s like tipping a tree, it depends on the area and the structure,” Jay Rickert of Rickert Excavating said. “We can take them down either way, from the top or bottom,” Hanson commented. There are a few different methods for demolishing concrete stave silos some companies will pull from the top some push from the bottom and some pull on the metal bands that stabilize and help hold the staves in place. “The repair side has been quite busy this month, also,” he added. Hanson Silo Company of Lake Lillian has built about five new concrete stave silos this year, which cost about $35,000 each, according to Hanson. That number is a drastic drop from the nearly 36,000 silos that were in use in the state less than 90 years ago. “Out of more than 4,000 dairy farms in the state, probably about 2,000 still have concrete stave silos in use for high-moisture silage,” Hanson Silo Company Director of Business Development Mike Hanson stated. Many landowners repurpose the staves for landscaping, some convert their silo for dry grain storage, and a few remodel or repair the silo for its originally intended purpose. Recent trends toward bunker or flat-style storage has left these iconic landmarks in the dust. Cement stave silos have towered over the Minnesota landscape since 1905, and at one point were the most commonly-built silo type in the state. 2/29/2024 0 Comments Irad ortiz jr spillThe key question-Are you getting it back in win totals and earnings?-prompts an instant answer from Ortiz: “One-hundred percent, yes.” I know how hard everybody worked last year. “Not only do they have a good yearly salary, but at the end of the year, I gave everybody a bonus. Workers traveling with Ortiz from meet to meet can make the following annually: exercise riders: $40,000 to $42,000 grooms and foremen: $34,000 to $36,000 and hotwalkers: $24,000 to $26,000. If they want to do laundry, I’ll tack on $200, do night watch: $200, walk a horse over and back for a race: $40. “I’ve had grooms make up to $1,200 a week in pay. He freely admits he is “over-paying” barn help. “With a salary, they’re willing to help me do extra things they normally haven’t had time for or don’t want to do because ‘it’s not my job.’ Those words don’t exist in my barn,” said Ortiz. Post-Colonial Downs, and with a full complement of help, the system and benefits from it continued. Salaries also minimize one hiring obstacle: Ortiz has had to turn away people who have told him, “If I can’t groom seven horses, I can’t work for you.” I realized that there was a lot of juggling keeping track of it-how many horses this guy did, how many horses that guy did-and you can get a little bit of jealousy: ‘Why is that guy grooming four horses, and he’s grooming seven?’” said Ortiz. Usually, it’s about $110, $120 per head per week. “Normally, a groom gets a job taking care of five, six, seven horses and they get paid by the head. It also solved issues and problems that have always existed in racetrack barns. The system continued for a variety of reasons, primarily among them that it worked. “When everybody was secure in knowing they were going to get paid a certain amount, they were happy to do whatever it took to get the job done.” Daniel and the exercise riders would walk hots, help catch horses and fill the water buckets. My brother and the grooms would walk down the line and muck stalls together. Ortiz described the new system as “a test run that was scary. With all-hands-on-deck required, the traditional pay structure of pay-per-head went out the proverbial window followed by job descriptions. Aside from the horses, the barn was Ortiz, three exercise riders, an assistant trainer, a foreman and the two grooms. “We went there with 27 horses and only two grooms. Barn help didn’t want to travel to Colonial Downs in Virginia where Ortiz and many other trainers had to locate. He is based in Lexington and had stabled during summers at Churchill Downs. The closure of Churchill Downs this past summer for the new turf track installation was the time for Ortiz to launch his system. The salaried system solved a chronic short-term problem of finding barn help and the long-term problem-equally, if not more importantly-of keeping barn help. He went on to earn $688,013 for the year-an enviable figure for any new trainer. That’s very respectable for a trainer in only his first full year on the racetrack. He saddled eight winners in 46 starts at Oaklawn, for a 17%-win percentage. Ortiz may have also interspersed “My Way” with whistling a happy tune on the way home. Don’t let anybody else tell you where to run them. Nobody knows your horses better than you do. Steve and I didn’t really know each other that well at the time, but I like to talk a lot, so I asked him, ‘What advice would you give a young trainer?’ He looked at me and said, ‘Stick to your guns. He ran third and I ran fourth and we were walking back to check our horses after the race, we happened to walk side by side. “Steve Asmussen and I were in a race together. John Alexander Ortiz has two favorite memories from his first Oaklawn Park meet in 2017: listening to Frank Sinatra’s signature song, “My Way,” on the eight-hour drive back to Lexington from Hot Springs, Arkansas after the meet and getting some advice that he has never forgotten. 2/29/2024 0 Comments Madcap cottage mill reefFREE shipping Add to Favorites Teal Floral Madcap Cottage Designer pillow cover Green Gray.
